Inside the system

The six jobs a TMS does for you

One workspace per client

Every project, language pair and file version in one organized place, so nothing lives in an email thread or a folder named "final_v3".

Translation memory

Neural TM learns your tone and terminology across every project and reuses it automatically, cutting re-translation costs by up to 60%.

Term base & glossary

Approved terms surface in context while you type and deviations get flagged, so client terminology stays consistent across years of work.

Real-time QA

Tags, punctuation, numbers, length and syntax checked on every keystroke, plus an AI proofreading pass for meaning and fluency.

Multi-engine AI

Pre-translate with GPT, Claude, Grok or DeepL, compare the output per segment and keep the version you would have written anyway.

Clean delivery

Export back to the original format — DOCX, XLSX, IDML, PPTX, JSON, PO, XLIFF, SDLXLIFF, MQXLIFF, SRT and more with tags and layout intact.

Definition

What is a translation management system?

A translation management system (TMS) is software that holds every part of a translation project in one place: the source files, the translations, the memory of everything you have already translated, the approved terminology, the quality checks and the delivery back to the client.

Instead of a folder of documents, a spreadsheet of terms and an inbox full of file versions, a TMS keeps the text as segments. Each segment is checked against your translation memory, pre-translated where a match exists, flagged by QA as you type, and exported back into the original file format with the formatting intact.

The category grew up serving large localization departments, which is why most systems are sold per seat and per year. WordBeam is the same category of tool, built around a single translator and their clients.

The gap

Why freelancers end up back in a spreadsheet

Enterprise translation management systems were never priced or shaped for a one-person business. Three things push translators out.

Per-seat pricing

You pay for a seat whether you translate 5,000 words that month or 200,000 and again for every reviewer you bring in.

Annual contracts

A year of commitment for work that arrives in uneven bursts, with the good features locked behind the tier above yours.

Enterprise onboarding

Weeks of setup designed for a localization department, when what you need is to open a file and start translating today.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is the difference between a TMS and a CAT tool?

A CAT tool is the editor you translate in segments, translation memory matches, terminology, QA. A translation management system wraps around it and handles everything else: projects, files, languages, versions, review steps and delivery. WordBeam gives you both in one place, so the editor and the project live in the same workspace.

Do I need a translation management system as a freelancer?

If you work with one client and short one-off texts, probably not. The moment you have repeat clients, recurring content or more than one language pair, a TMS pays for itself: you stop re-translating sentences you have already delivered, and terminology stays consistent without you having to remember it.

Which file formats can I work with?

CSV, DOCX, DOCX bilingual, XLSX, IDML, JSON, MQXLIFF, MXLIFF, PO, PPTX, SCC, SDLXLIFF, SRT, TSV, TXT and XLIFF, with native connectors for Adobe Experience Manager, Contentful, GitHub, GitLab and Figma. More formats are in active development.

Does my translation memory stay mine?

Yes. WordBeam is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, with EU data residency by default. We never train public models on your content, and your translation memory remains yours.

Can I invite a reviewer or my agency?

Yes, at no extra seat cost. You can also connect unlimited MT engines, including DeepL, Google and custom LLMs, alongside the built-in ones.

What does it cost?

Freelancer is $30/month for up to 100,000 words with one workspace seat. Studio is $80/month for up to 250,000 words and up to seven seats. Agencies and teams with larger volumes get custom volume pricing. All plans are billed monthly with cancellation anytime.
